Today is exactly two weeks before the new semester starts and although I'm looking forward to the subject I'm teaching, I'm dreading the start of the new term. My class schedule will be three days per week (ugh). I haven't taught this course before so I have to start from scratch (ugh). And, the class is an early evening class. Friday attendance will likely be an issue which means I'll give unannounced quizzes on many Fridays to reward those who show up and make it more difficult for those who don't to receive a passing grade.
I have to prep my syllabus now and send it off to the department secretary so that they have it on file. At least that task isn't too difficult. I'll just basically use the template syllabus I have on file for my previous courses. Ideally, I'd like to prep a few lectures as well so that I'm ready to go and don't have to rush to prep just before each lecture.
No doubt there will be endless stories of student stupidity coming soon. That is, perhaps, the most dreadful part of returning for the 2011-2012 school year.
